Chapter 6—Troubleshooting

Why won’t images show up on the server?

You didn't copy the "imgs" folder to the server, or you put it in the wrong location. See the above
answer to "How do I load files on my server". Another possibility is that the name of the web page
contains a character that is interpreted differently on the server's system. If you are copying web pages
a UNIX server, do not use the following characters in file names: the "space" character, "/" , "#", and
",".

After installing GoClick, lots of desktop printers have appeared.

You have found a bug in System 7, caused by having Desktop Printing enabled and Finder Scripting
disabled. To fix it, you can do one of the following:

1. remove Desktop Printing from your system,
2. install Finder Scripting Extension into your system,
3. get OS 8, which does not have this bug.

My text is being converted to an image.

When Page Layout: Cascading Style Sheets option is notused, GoClick combines overlapping text and
graphics into images. This is a powerful feature that overcomes HTML's inability to display
overlapping text and graphics. To obtain text instead of graphics, you can:

1. insure that text and graphics don't overlap, or
2. turn off conversion of graphic objects that overlap the text, or
3. use Cascading Style Sheets for Page Layout.

If you are using Cascading Style Sheets for page layout and are still seeing text converted to images,
your text must be rotated or horizontally scaled. You need to un-rotate or un-scale the text. For more
information on text-to-image conversion, see the Graphics section above.

All my FreeHand text is still coming out as images.

You probably have a white background set for your text. To turn off the white background, select the
text object, choose "Modify Object…" from the FreeHand menu, then make sure the following is
selected:

MS-Word tables are gifs, even though I turned off rectangles.

Even though MS-Word's table borders look like rectangles, they are actually drawn using lines. To
convert tables as text instead of images, you must turn off the conversion of lines. See the Graphics
section above for information on how to do this.

I can't convert my PDF (Acrobat) files.

Adobe Acrobat Reader converts an entire page to an image before printing. This has two undesirable
side effects:

1. it requires enormous amounts of RAM,
2. all text gets converted to images prior to printing.

If you are fortunate enough to have enough RAM to print from Acrobat, your converted page will be
just a big image. We can't do anything about this problem until (unless) Adobe fixes the way Acrobat
prints.

How do I increase the memory allocation for GoClick?

You don't. If you are running out of memory (RAM) when converting a document, you need to
increase the memory allocated to the application you're using. Select the application in the Finder and
choose "Get Info". You can then enter a higher amount of memory in the Get Info window:

GoClick also uses temporary memory, so quitting other running applications will make more memory
available.

How do I access Page Setup in PageMaker and QuarkXPress 4.0?

You can access GoClick's Page Setup dialog in PageMaker, but Adobe has made the process less than
obvious. To access Page Setup, select the "Print" command. PageMaker's Print dialog, which contains
a “setup” button, will appear. Clicking this button brings up GoClick's Page Setup dialog.
